Dr. Roof is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis and is the site director for medical student and resident psychiatric education at the Sacramento County Jail. Dr. Roof completed medical school and his residency training in psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed additional training in forensic psychiatry at UC Davis and is a board certified forensic psychiatrist. Dr. Roof has been qualified as an expert witness in federal, state and military courts and has testified to issues involving a variety of mental illnesses, geriatric mental health, violence, PTSD, victim behavior, diagnostic imaging of the brain, malingering, medical malpractice, substance use and memory. He is part of several Expert Witness Panels, including the Sacramento County Superior Court Expert Witness panel and has completed numerous appointments for them involving competency to stand trial, sanity evaluations, violence risk and evaluations of sexual offenders. He has been published on the topics including geriatric offenders, testamentary capacity, guardianship assessments and brain imaging techniques as they relate to the legal system. In addition to presenting nationally and internationally on numerous psychiatric topics through professional medical organizations he has also organized and presented mental health training for District Attorneys and Public Defenders nationally.
